Dying to Please

Eating Disorders.  An illness that alot of people are all too familiar with.  Eating Disorders include binge, bulimia nervosa, and anorexia nervosa.  There are other different types of eating disorders though.
Statistics Canada showed that 1.5 percent (not alot, im aware) of Canadian women aged 15 to 24 years old have an eating disorder.
Alot of people confuse "dieting" with an eating disorder.  An eating disorder is considered an illness, while as dieting is not.
Anorexia Nervosa (Greek for "lack of appetite") is an obsessive fear of gaining weight.  This fear is often over-the-top and un necessary, because the person is not overweight.  People that have Anorexia starve themselves and often excercise more than they should daily.  The side effects of this include: growing soft hairs all over your body, fainting, irregular or loss of monthly periods, dry skin, hair loss, heart damage, and sometimes death.
Bulimia Nervosa-  This is someone who eats a large amount of food in a small period of time, which is called binging.  They then get rid of the food by purging, aka throwing it up again.  They also excercise much more than they should.  The effects of this are: tooth enamel erosion, stomach ulcers, ruptures of stomach or esophagus, dehydration, heart attack, and more likely to have suicidal behaviour. and of course, death.
Binge eating disorder-  This is best described as eating until your more than full, uncontrolled eating.  They often feel out of control and feel ashamed.

The ones I am going to focus on are the first two.
Approximately 7 million women will struggle with an eating disorder, and 1 million males.
10 to 25 percent of these people will die from it.
Most people are hospitalized when they have an eating disorder, and at the early stages they may have to attend therapy sessions.

This all comes back down to BODY IMAGE, something that is overly important to alot of people, mostly due to societies view of "beautiful" or "perfect"
You mostly see it in girls these days, the ones who are dissatisfied with the way they look, and try so hard to change it, especially by dieting.
Now i'm not saying that these girls have an eating disorder, because you cant CHOOSE to have one.
The way the media portrays girls in magazines and on tv, ect, is so unrealistic and i'm going to be blunt here and say -its stupid. pointless. it disgusts me. But thats a whole nother topic.

I believe that everyone is perfect, People should try to accept & be more comfortable in their own skin, because everyone is special & unique. <3
